Rice says not interested in a 2008 White House run
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Condoleezza Rice on Sunday said she
was flattered by speculation she could be the next U.S.
president but stressed she had no interest in a White House
run.
“It’s flattering and I appreciate people who think of me in
those terms, but that’s not what I’m going to do in life,” the
U.S. Secretary of State told Fox News Sunday.
“I’m quite certain that there are going to be really fine
candidates for president from our party and I’m looking forward
to seeing them and supporting them.”
Web sites including AmericansForRice.com and Rice2008.com
are encouraging Rice to seek the Republican nomination for the
White House in 2008, and one group has aired television ads
touting her during “Commander in Chief,” a show about a female
president.
Speaking on NBC’s Meet the Press, Rice was resolute about
her intentions.
“I don’t know how many ways to say no. I’m not somebody who
wants to run for office,” she said. “I have no interest in
being a candidate for anything.
