October 20, 2005
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The acting majority leader for the
U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday said legislation to
stiffen oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac would be on the
House floor for debate next week.
Missouri Republican Roy Blunt, in remarks to reporters,
said, “I think the compromise works. I talked to Chairman
(Michael) Oxley about it again today and we look forward to
having that situation resolved on the House floor next week.”
Congress is weighing measures to overhaul supervision of
the government sponsored enterprises following
multibillion-dollar accounting scandals at Fannie and Freddie.
