Text of report by Interfax-Ukraine news agency

Kiev, 1 November: Ukraine has lifted the ban on poultry imports from Greece after bird flu was not confirmed there, the State Veterinary Department of Ukraine said today.

The department specified that it lifted the ban, having received an official report on the absence of bird flu virus in Greece.

As reported earlier, on 18 October Ukraine banned poultry imports from Greece on suspicion of bird flu there.

Describing the bird flu situation in Ukraine, Ukrainian veterinarians said that no cases of poultry disease were registered in Ukraine. The State Veterinary Department said that veterinary agencies conducted about 36,000 inspections against the highly pathogenic flu and none of them confirmed the virus.

The state department said that veterinary agencies work in an enhanced regime and that the situation with prevention of bird flu to Ukraine is fully controllable.

Earlier Ukraine banned poultry imports from Russia, Romania, Turkey, and Croatia.
