Posted on: Thursday, 3 November 2005, 12:00 CST

WASHINGTON, Nov. 3 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Following is a statement from the National Archives on records relating to Supreme Court Nominee Samuel Alito:

In response to several FOIA requests, the National Archives is searching for records pertaining to Supreme Court Nominee Samuel Alito. Archivists have identified several voluminous Department of Justice (DOJ) series of records that may have records pertaining to Alito, and are searching them for documents that are from or to him, have him mentioned in the subject line, or list him on the "CC" line. Seven archivists are working full-time on this to expedite the project. It will take several weeks for the National Archives to complete its search of the DOJ records. The Archives is also searching for records on Judge Alito in the Ronald Reagan and George Bush Presidential Libraries and in the National Archives Regional Archives.

The National Archives will make these documents available to the public as possible. A press release will be issued to announce the openings.
