WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday canceled a debate on a $50 billion spending-cut bill after concluding the controversial measure lacked enough votes for passage, according to a congressional source.
The House leadership aide, who asked not to be identified, could not say when another attempt to pass the bill might be made.
The setback for House Republicans came shortly after Senate Republicans failed to advance a tax-cut bill through the Senate Finance Committee.
