WASHINGTON, Dec. 2 /U.S. Newswire/ — Today, Fidelis denounced the recent statements by Senator Charles Schumer against Judge Samuel A. Alito over documents released as a matter of course of the confirmation process saying they “have zero credibility.”

Fidelis President Joseph Cella stated: “On the one hand, Senator Schumer calls for ‘thorough, fair and full hearings’ yet he smears the impeccable integrity of Judge Alito by suggesting the Thornburgh memo was purposefully omitted, and now is threatening a filibuster. Senator Schumer has cried wolf so many times like this over past nominees, his statements now have zero credibility.”

A series of partisan attacks have occurred in recent days by Senator Chuck Schumer, Senator Barbara Boxer and Senator Ted Kennedy in the run up to the Alito hearings that begin on January 9.

“Two things are motivating Senator Schumer: unregulated abortion on demand and raising money for the 2006 election cycle.” Cella noted.

Schumer chairs the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee which raises money to elect Democrats to the U.S. Senate.

Cella added: “This is unbecoming of Senator Schumer, it denigrates the Senate and it soils this important process.

“Unfortunately, we have to expect that Senator Schumer will team up with his liberal allies to create a spectacle during the Alito hearings. Judge Alito is an eminently qualified nominee. Both he and America deserve better,” Cella said.
