Statement By RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman on Today's Vote By the Senate Judiciary Committee

WASHINGTON, Jan. 24 /U.S. Newswire/ -- RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman issued the following statement on today's vote by the Senate Judiciary Committee to recommend Judge Alito's nomination to the full Senate.
"While it's heartening to see Judge Alito favorably recommended by the Senate Judiciary Committee, it's disappointing to hear the continued partisan attacks that accompanied a party- line vote. Democrats resurrected the same red herrings and full fledge distortions that Judge Alito directly addressed in the hearings, making one wonder whether they had any intention of seriously considering his nomination. Political posturing is no substitute for due diligence, and today, Judiciary Committee Democrats showed they were more interested in kowtowing to left- wing special interest groups than undertaking their constitutional duty to advise and consent and represent their constituents."
