Bush to offer line-item veto, White House says
March 6, 2006
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President George W. Bush will
announce legislation on Monday requesting a line-item veto —
the power to cancel specific items within spending bills, the
White House said.
White House spokesman Scott McClellan said the proposal was
written in a way to head off problems raised by the U.S.
Supreme Court when it rejected as unconstitutional a previous
version of the line-item veto in 1998.
