Mar. 31--A routine traffic stop in Quakertown led to the arrest of a borough man for possession of about a half-pound of marijuana and two ounces of cocaine, police said.

Michael Bowman, 34, of 110 Erie Ave., was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance. He was arranged Wednesday night by Ottsville District Judge Kay DuBree and released on $15,000 bail.

Police estimate the value of the drugs at $3,600.

According to Quakertown police, officers pulled over a car at Ninth and Mill streets about 11:50 p.m. last Friday that had illegally tinted windows.

Three men were in the car, none of whom was the owner, police said.

According to Cpl. Ed Dex, officers discovered there was a warrant for Bowman's arrest for failure to appear in court on a minor charge. He was turned over to the Bucks County Sheriff's Department, but was freed after posting bail.

The car was impounded.

Police got a search warrant and on Saturday discovered a travel bag in the trunk that contained plastic shopping bags, a rolled-up pair of athletic socks and a hotel room key card.

Inside the shopping bags were smaller plastic bags containing marijuana and inside one of the socks was a plastic bag that contained nine smaller plastic bags filled with small amounts of cocaine, police said.

"We were able to determine the drugs belonged to Bowman," said Dex, adding the registered owner of the vehicle is a female friend of Bowman, who told police he paid for and drove the car, but that she signed the ownership papers.

Dex said police also traced the hotel room key to Bowman.
