Nearly 500 members of the U.S. military arrived in Palm Desert, Calif., to rehearse procedures for former U.S. President Gerald Ford's funeral procession.
The military secured the area around St. Margaret's Episcopal Church for a public viewing of the former president's body. That part of the series of memorial services planned for Ford is to begin at 4 p.m. PST Friday and continue until about 8 a.m. PST Saturday, The Los Angeles Times reported.
A private prayer service and viewing has also been planned for Ford's family at about midday Friday.
The former leader's body is to be taken to Washington Saturday for a state funeral in front of the U.S. Capitol. Additional funerals will be held in Ford's hometown of Grand Rapids, Mich., and at the National Cathedral in Washington.
