Tony Snow made his first appearance behind the White House press room podium Monday since undergoing surgery for liver cancer.

I’m feeling great, Snow said on Good Morning America. Pretty much recovered and healed up from surgery about five weeks ago, and glad to be back at work.

Snow, 51, said he expects to be able to fulfill his duties as presidential press secretary.

Snow, a former radio and television host for Fox News, is a colon cancer survivor but learned in late March the disease had spread to his liver. He said he is confident he can do his job while undergoing chemotherapy, which is set to begin on Friday.

Cancer frightens so many people that they don’t realize the treatment for the disease and the prognosis and the pace of innovation is so much different than we experienced when we were kids, Snow told the New York Times. There are folks out there who, they hear the word ‘cancer’ and they freak out, and they don’t need to do that anymore.
