Angry Birds Downloads Increase During Christmas Holiday
Christmas not only saw an increase in tablet and smartphone sales and activations. Rovio reported this week that 6.5 million users downloaded Angry Birds on Christmas Day alone.
Ville Heijari, of Rovio, told AllThingsD, “We´re really excited to have such a massive number of new people get acquainted with Angry Birds over the holidays – we have exciting new releases lined up for 2012, and can´t wait to introduce them to the public.”
Rovio´s download count includes the original Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons and Angry Birds Rio, both the paid and free downloads. According to Mashable.com many of the downloads could be repeats by the same customer, but the number of downloads is too similar to the number of activations.
The number of downloads for Christmas 2011 is a dramatic increase over Christmas 2010, which recorded only 2 million downloads, including Android and iOS devices
MSNBC´s In-Game notes that the one-day download volume for Christmas day is only a drop in the bucket compared to the 500 million total downloads since the gaming franchise started just over two-years ago.
