Former Yahoo CEO Named Head Of Guitar Hero
Dan Rosensweig, former Yahoo chief operating officer, has been appointed by Activision to run its RedOctane franchise, the business unit behind Guitar Hero.
According to industry estimates, Guitar Hero sales topped $800 million in 2008. Rosensweig will oversee game development, hardware manufacturing, supply chain, logistics and marketing for RedOctane.
Kai Huang, the former CEO of RedOctane, will continue to work at the company, reporting to Rosensweig. Kai Huang and brother Charles Huang created Guitar Hero.
Guitar Hero is a game that allows users to play along to songs with controllers shaped like a guitar, drum set, or microphone.
Activision said in a statement that Rosensweig, who served as Chief Operating Officer of Yahoo from 2002 through 2006, will help the company expand the franchise globally "in new and innovative ways."
