Gran Turismo 5 Release Delayed Again

Officials said Thursday that Sony is delaying the global release of its latest "Gran Turismo" racing game, which was due in early November.

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. said Gran Turismo 5 for the PlayStation 3 video-game consoles was going to hit U.S. and European markets on November 2 and Japan the following day.  However, the game will now be released "this holiday season."

Makiko Noda, a spokeswoman for Sony's game unit said the delay is because of "production reasons."

She said it was unclear whether the release would be in time for "Black Friday," which is the largest shopping day in the U.S.

Gran Turismo is one of the biggest money makers for Sony, and the game sold over 56 million copies around the world since its 1997 debut.

Gran Turismo 5's release had already been delayed from March this year.

Rival company Nintendo said last month that its hugely anticipated handheld 3DS console would miss the key Christmas season.
