Microsoft Sells 2.5 Million Kinect Devices
Microsoft Corp. said on Monday that it has sold over 2.5 million Kinect devices around the world after only being available for 25 days.
A Target executive also told Reuters that Kinect sold well during "Black Friday," which is the shopping period after Thanksgiving.
Microsoft's new motion-controlled device allows Xbox users to control movements on-screen by gestures and voice commands. It competes with Nintendo's Wii system and Sony's PlayStation Move device.
Nintendo has not had comparable sales figures as it tries to boost up its sales during the holiday season. However, the company said that it has over 65 million Wii remote controllers in the U.S. market.
Sony has not made retail sales figures for its motion-sensing Move Controller public.
