Kinect Reaches 10 Million Unit Milestone

Microsoft Corp announced on Wednesday that in just over four months it has sold over 10 million of its Kinect motion-sensing game system units, making it the fastest-selling consumer device on record.

The infrared camera add-on for the Xbox game console helped boost Microsoft's revenue in the last quarter and is beating out a rival product from Sony Corp.

Microsoft said the popularity of the $150 device had also spurred the sale of over 10 million standalone Kinect games.

The software company said in January that it sold over 8 million Kinect devices in the first 60 days since launch, including the important holiday shopping season.  According to Guinness World Records, that made it the fastest-selling consumer electronics device to date.

Kinect is outpacing Sony's competing Move device, which tracks body gestures for video games.

Sony said at the end of November that it sold 4.1 million units of Move in its first two months.
