FTC Approves EA For Purchase Of PopCap
Electronic Arts has been given the go-ahead by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to purchase PopCap Games.
EA struck the deal to help compete against Zynga Inc. The deal, which was approved on Thursday, was estimated at up to $1.3 billion.
PopCap has popular games such as “Bejeweled” and “Plants vs. Zombies.”
EA is investing more in online content as consumers flock to the Internet and smartphones to play games. The company said earlier this month that EA expects to close the transaction with PopCap in August.
PopCap has been around for 10 years and generated $100 million in revenue in 2010. It makes simple games for platforms like Facebook, Google’s Android and Apple’s iPhone and iPad.
