NEWS IN BRIEF ; Patrick Taps Lawyer for Environment Post

The Patrick administration yesterday named Laurie Burt, 58, founder of the environmental law practice at the Boston law firm Foley Hoag LLP, as the state’s new Department of Environmental Protection commissioner. She will begin her job Sept. 4. In a statement, Burt said she hoped to “set a new standard for both environmental protection and regulatory efficiency” at the agency.
