2 Fires in Zion Park Are Fully Contained
Two large wildfires burning in Zion National Park were fully contained on Sunday, fire officials said Tuesday.
The Dakota Hills complex of fires is no longer threatening visitors to the park, but four recreation areas remain closed due to the likelihood of flash flooding, according to fire information officer David Eaker. The closed areas are the West Rim Trail and Behunin, Imlan and Heaps canyons.
The fires started after lightning struck on July 12 and have burned 9,156 acres of Ponderosa pine, pinyon pine, brush and grass. The Dakota Hills fires were just two of several large wildfires burning out of control earlier this month but were the last to have been fully contained.
