Financial Services Roundtable-Habitat for Humanity Community Build Day

Habitat for Humanity - DeKalb:
What: Community Build Day - a Habitat for Humanity/Financial Services Roundtable volunteer project. Employees from five Atlanta-area insurance/financial services companies have joined together with City of Hope, a community development corporation affiliated with Ray of Hope Christian Church, to help Habitat for Humanity - DeKalb build a home near Lithonia and will pound a ceremonial "first nail" to kick off the volunteer project. Participating companies include: ACE Group, BB&T, ING, NOVA Information Systems, and SunTrust.
When: Saturday, August 4, 2007 8:00 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. Press conference and "first nail" ceremony 8:45 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Volunteer service project
Location: 5366 Medena Way, Lithonia, GA (directions are included below)
Interview opportunities: Approximately 40 employee volunteers and company executives will be working to complete the day's build. The home's future owner -- a single mother with four children -- will be available to speak to reporters. Confirmed government officials attending the press conference include Congressman Henry "Hank" Johnson and DeKalb County Commissioner Lee May. Additional invited civic leaders include Vernon Jones, DeKalb County CEO; Connie Stokes, DeKalb County Commissioner; Ron Ramsey, Georgia State Senator; and Pam Stephenson, Georgia State Representative. Available from City of Hope will be Connie Jackson, Executive Director. Also available will be the following financial services company officials: Rob Huber, Senior Vice President and Regional Executive Officer, ACE USA; Derold McIver, Vice President, BB&T Ronald Alston, First Vice President, Institutional & Government Banking, SunTrust Bank; Rhonda Mims, President, ING Foundation, ING; and Stuart Harvey, President and Chris Kenyon, CIO, NOVA Information Systems.
In addition to the August 4th build, each of the participating companies is volunteering at the site on weekends between August and November. The home will be dedicated in November.
The goal of Habitat for Humanity - DeKalb is to eliminate poverty housing in DeKalb County by constructing and building simple, decent homes. As of July 2007, Habitat for Humanity DeKalb has built 36 homes in the surrounding community with plans to complete three more homes in DeKalb County before the end of the year.
Directions: From downtown Atlanta: Take Interstate -- 20 East to Panola Road exit -- Exit 71. Turn right onto Panola Road ; proceed .6 miles and turn left onto Winslow Crossing Drive N. Proceed .1 miles and turn right onto Pequea Drive; then proceed .1 miles and turn left onto Medena Way. The house is located at 5366 Medena Way.
