Mitsubishi Heavy to Build PTA Plant in Poland
Tokyo, Aug. 17 (Jiji Press)–Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. said Friday it has landed an order to build a large-scale plant in Poland for producing purified terephthalic acid, a material for polyester fiber and plastic beverage bottles.
The deal, worth about 50 billion yen, was concluded with Polski Koncern Naftowy Orlen S.A., Poland’s largest oil refining and petrochemical company also known as PKN Orlen.
The plant, to be built in Wloclawek, west-northwest of Warsaw, is slated to launch operations in October 2010 with an annual output capacity of 600,000 tons.
It will be the first PTA plant to be built in Poland, Mitsubishi Heavy said.
In Poland, PTA demand for use in PET, or polyethylene terephthalate, plastic bottles has been increasing sharply due to the country’s economic growth, the company said.END
