Aug. 18–A motorcycle accident on U.S. Highway 2 left one man in the hospital Friday night in satisfactory condition.

Andrew J. Carpenter, 21, of Grand Forks, was three miles west of Grand Forks, heading east, at about 6:10 p.m. on his 2001 Yamaha motorcycle and was attempting to pop a wheelie, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The bike fell and slid on one side before ejecting Carpenter and rolling into the south ditch.

“He lost control and hit the ditch,” said Patrol Sgt. Aaron Hummel.

Carpenter was not wearing a helmet and was taken to Altru Hospital, according to the patrol.

Altru Ambulance, Grand Forks Police Department and Emerado (N.D.) Fire and Rescue also responded to the accident.
