How Viagra Makes Men Loving As Well As Lusty
VIAGRA can turn men into more loving partners, research has suggested.
As well as improving sexual performance, scientists have found, anti-impotence drugs boost levels of a ‘cuddle chemical’ in the brain which increases a man’s love for his partner.
The ‘love hormone’ oxytocin is believed to promote romantic feelings and bonding between couples.
The chemical, released during orgasm, also has an important role in social interaction, childbirth and breastfeeding.
The discovery, to be published in the Journal of Psychology, was made by scientists from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the U.S.
They measured the oxytocin produced by rats and found levels were three times higher after exposure to Viagra.
But study leader Professor Meyer Jackson warned that Viagra will not make a man love a woman unless there is some affection there to start with.
Two other drugs, Levitra and Cialis, work in the same way as Viagra, by blocking an enzyme called phosphodiesterase type 5, which means they are also likely to increase levels of ‘love chemicals’ in men..
