Birds and Bees
ACCORDING to the latest official action plan for Britain’s wildlife, the number of species in need of protection has doubled over the past 10 years, now including previously common creatures such as hedgehogs and house sparrows. This is not just the result of farming and housing development but of the way we manage our gardens and green public spaces.
Using pesticides, uprooting hedges, giving manicured lawns preference over long grass and bushes all make things harder for birds and small mammals.
This is one area where every London garden owner and council can do their bit to encourage wildlife to flourish and get immeasurable pleasure in return..
