Petroleum Minister Urges for High-Quality Oil Products

Petroleum Minister Sameh Fahmi Sunday 2/9/2007 called for producing high-quality oil products that run in line with new environmental laws in order to face world competition. Fahmi also called for improving oil refining labs to increase profits. Refining and Petrochemical industries are the prime source of securing Egypt’s needs of oil and petrochemical products, Fahmi said at the general assembly meetings of Egyptian Petrochemicals Company (EGP), Amiriyah Petroleum Refining Company and Alexandria National Refining Company.He urged setting up new maintenance company for the under- establishment petrochemical projects. Mohsen Zaher, EGP head, said the company realised unprecedented results in terms of production and export rates, citing a nine per cent increase of Poly (vinyl chloride) production this year compared to the year before. He said the company succeeded in marketing its production of this material and provided $ 77 million in hard currency. Mansour Kamel , chairman of Alexandria National Refining Company, said 5 million tonnes of crude oil were refined to meet the local market’s needs of petroleum products while the surplus was exported abroad.
