Aqua New Jersey, Inc. (Aqua) announced today that Carol Storms, Aqua's manager of water quality and wastewater, has been reappointed to the New Jersey Drinking Water Quality Institute by New Jersey President of the Senate Richard J. Codey.
The New Jersey Drinking Water Quality Institute is responsible for developing maximum contaminant levels, or standards, for hazardous contaminants in drinking water and recommending these standards to the Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. The Institute is also charged with suggesting ways to implement the drinking water quality program.
Of the 15 members of the Institute, six members serve ex officio and nine members are appointed (three each) by the Governor, the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the Assembly. Storms was first appointed to the Institute in 2004.
Storms was also recently named to the Gloucester Township Environmental Commission by Mayor Cindy Rau-Hatton. The commission will work to preserve open space and protect water sources in Gloucester Township, Camden County.
Storms brings more than 25 years experience to her appointments. She is well-known on state and federal levels, and has been coordinating Aqua's water and wastewater efforts since June 2004.
Storms earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Asbury College in Kentucky and holds New Jersey licenses in advanced water treatment and distribution. She is a member of the New Jersey Board of License Examiners, and is active on the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce Environment Committee. Storms is a resident of Camden County.
Aqua provides water and wastewater services to 150,000 residents across eight counties in New Jersey. It is a subsidiary of Aqua America, Inc., the largest U.S.-based publicly-traded water company, serving more than 2.5 million residents in 13 states.
