Hurricane Humberto Hits Southeast Texas
Hurricane Humberto made landfall in southeastern Texas early Thursday packing 85 mph winds with a projected path taking it to Louisiana.
At 4 a.m. Thursday, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said the storm was 60 miles northeast of Galveston, Texas, moving north-northeast near 8 mph.
Hurricane-force winds extended 15 miles from the eye wall, while tropical storm-force winds extended 60 miles, the report said.
Humberto is a Category 1 storm on the Saffir-Simpson scale and expected to weaken as it moves over land, forecasters said.
The center warned isolated tornadoes are possible in southeastern Texas and southwestern Louisiana through the day.
Rainfall amounts of 5 to 10 inches are expected along the projected track of Humberto from southwestern to northeastern Louisiana, across southeastern Arkansas and into central and northern Mississippi with isolated accumulations of 15 inches possible.
