Spraying to Close Areas of Park

September 16, 2007
Repost This

Two areas within Theodore Roosevelt National Park are scheduled to be temporarily closed to the public during the aerial application of herbicide to control noxious weeds. The closures will take place sometime between Tuesday and Sept. 26. Weather will determine the days the helicopters can fly for this operation.

A total of 1,200 acres will be sprayed in the park’s North Unit to treat Canada thistle. It is expected that the North Unit Scenic Drive from the River Bend Overlook to the end of the road will be closed two to three days.

In the South Unit, the aerial application of herbicide will be used for 2,800 acres of leafy spurge and 500 acres of Canada thistle along several trails in the western portion of the park as well as sites near Cottonwood Campground and Peaceful Valley Ranch. The campground will be closed one to two days during this period.

Contact the park at 701-623-4466 for information regarding the closure schedule.
