(Pounds) 37m for Science Research

SCIENTISTS will benefit from a multi-million pound research package announced today.

The (pounds) 37million windfall will be given for initiatives in chemistry and physics.

The Scottish Universities Physics Alliance - which includes Glasgow, Strathclyde and Paisley universities - will receive cash for research in astronomy and space physics.

The money comes from the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council and the Scottish Executive and will be allocated over the next four years.

Enterprise Minister Jim Wallace said: "Funding such as this is crucial to ensure our research base maintains its competitive edge."
