DWR Announces Salmon Festival Set for September 22
On Saturday, September 22, starting at 10 a.m., the fall migration of the Feather River Chinook salmon will be celebrated at Oroville’s Annual Salmon Festival. The City of Oroville will host a variety a fun activities for the family.
Free Feather River Fish Hatchery Events
The Feather River Fish Hatchery, located on the river across from Historical Downtown Oroville, will feature salmon spawning for public viewing. Department of Water Resources (DWR) staff will provide free guided tours of the salmon spawning every half hour starting at 10:30 a.m.
The South Yuba River Citizens League and the Department of Boating and Waterways will host live theater at the Hatchery Facilities. Shows start at 10:30 a.m. through 3 p.m.
DWR will have two fishing simulators available for visitors to enjoy, and special activity booths for children. Each child who participates will be photographed with their catch.
The Jack Splash Club, a free club for kids sponsored by DWR and the Oroville Area Chamber of Commerce, will be signing up new members and giving rewards to existing members. There will be free prizes for every child who visits the booth.
Free shuttles to Salmon Festival events will be available starting at 10 a.m. with bus stops at each of the venues. Overflow and disabled access parking is available at county offices at Table Mountain Boulevard and Grand Avenue. This area will also have disabled access shuttle service.
Downtown Oroville Street Fair
There will be crafts, vendors, food, live music, children’s activities and an art show at the Municipal Auditorium in downtown Oroville.
Butte County Office of Education Annual Family Fun Day
Located at Bicentennial Park in downtown Oroville, there will be games, live music, a talent show, face-painting and food.
Salmon at the State Theater
Come view the free Artists of the River Town Art Show. Show times run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This year there will also be a children’s art show.
Free Nature Center Events
Across the river from the Fish Hatchery, the Feather River Nature Center will showcase Maidu Tribal events including a Salmon Ceremony, spear fishing demonstrations, cultural dancing, food and games.
5-K Salmon Run
Starting at 8 a.m., there will be a 3.1-mile run beginning and ending at Riverbend Park facilities.
The Salmon Festival is made possible through the efforts of many individuals, businesses and organizations. DWR is a festival co-sponsor, along with other public agencies including the Department of Fish and Game, Department of Boating and Waterways, the City of Oroville, and local private sector entities, headed by the Oroville Area Chamber of Commerce.
