OROMOCTO, N.B. - The federal government is looking for ways to protect the jobs of military reservists who are absent from work while training or on active duty.
Labour Minister Jean Pierre Blackburn was at CFB Gagetown in New Brunswick Friday as he continues his cross-country consultation on how to protect reservists' jobs.
The consultation comes after soldiers lost their jobs while they were deployed in Afghanistan.
Blackburn says protecting jobs is the right thing to do, but the process requires co-ordination among several government departments and the provinces.
Nova Scotia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan already have legislation, while other provinces are looking at the issue.
Blackburn says the consultation process will take a few months to complete, and whatever the federal government decides to do it will have to protect employers as well.
