SPRINGDALE — Zion National Park will offer free white fir firewood to the public through Oct. 14 from its Lava Point area.

Members of the public will need to obtain permits, which will allow them to gather four cords of wood, according to a news release.

Permits will be issued at Lava Point, about 25 miles north of Virgin on Kolob Terrace Road. They will be available between 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. beginning today.

Wheelbarrows will be allowed, but chain saws and dragging will not. Some of the branches will be pre-cut.
