INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The Center for Energy and Economic Development (CEED) lauded the Indiana Air Pollution Control Board earlier this week after their 11-1 vote to adopt the federal Clean Air Mercury Rule (CAMR).
Scott Wiseman, Midwestern Region Vice President for CEED, said the near- unanimous vote was due in large part to facts that were presented to the control board. "The decision by the board was based on factual information and expert testimony," he said.
During a hearing last May, the Pollution Control Board supported preliminary adoption of CAMR by a vote of 8-4. "The voices of Indiana consumers and ratepayers and groups like Americans for Balanced Energy Choices, who care about the environment and affordable electricity rates, also played a key role in the increase of votes at the final adoption hearing," Wiseman said.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) studied various ways to regulate mercury emissions from power plants before issuing CAMR. The rule requires a 66 percent reduction in mercury emissions by 2018. For more information, visit http://www.ceednet.org/.
