The Tennessee Science Teachers Association has selected Christina E. Clapsadle as 2004 Science Educator of the Year for Grades 5-8. She received her award at the Tennessee Science Teachers Conference in Franklin, Tenn.
Clapsadle is an eighth-grade honors science and a physical science teacher at White Station Middle School. She encourages her students to be scientists, to investigate, examine, question, and discover all that science has to offer.
Her students love her focus on science discovery, which leads to many labs and hands-on activities. She has received a teacher initiative grant from the Memphis Rotary Foundation for a unit on Solving Crimes Using Real Science and Forensics.
In January, students will begin their Mission to Saturn, Exploring Titan with a grant from the TEA for Tennessee Space Week. Students will celebrate Tennessee Space Week Jan. 23-29.
