Lawrence G. Almeda Appointed to the State Advisory Committee for the U. S. Commission on Civil Rights

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the U.S., is pleased to announce that Lawrence G. Almeda, a shareholder in the firm's Ann Arbor, Michigan office, has recently been appointed to the State Advisory Committee for the United States Commission on Civil Rights. He has a 2-year term and can be reappointed.

An alumnus of Leadership Detroit, Mr. Almeda is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Washtenaw County Bar Association, a member of the Michigan Governor's Advisory Council on Asian Pacific American Affairs, the immediate past president of the Michigan Asian Pacific American Bar Association and an assistant regional governor on the Board of Directors for the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association.

Mr. Almeda focuses his practice on patent opinions and prosecution in the medical, chemical, mechanical and nanotechnology fields. He received his LL.M. in intellectual property from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, his J.D. from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, where he was a published member of Law Review, and his B.S. in chemical engineering from Purdue University.

The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights has 51 State Advisory Committees (SAC), one for each state and the District of Columbia. The members of these state advisory committees serve to assist the Commission with its fact-finding, investigative and information disseminating functions.
