THE Environment Agency has given a Rugby cement plant the go- ahead to burn a fuel that’s made from rubbish.

Cemex has been given permission to trial Climafuel at its Leicester Road site after a number of experts agreed it was safe to do so.

The fuel, which is manufactured from municipal waste as part of the process to sort recyclable rubbish, is expected to be used sometime next year, though final arrangements have yet to be made.

David Hudson, environment manager for Warwickshire, said: “We are happy that a trial should go ahead, subject to tight controls we have place on the company.”
