Faced With Record Dry Year, Potential 2008 Water Shortages, Los Angeles DWP, Metropolitan Water District to Jointly Host Media Breakfast Workshop

WHAT: The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and Metropolitan Water District of Southern California to jointly host media breakfast briefing on local, regional water picture, need for conservation. Agencies are looking to partner with radio, television news media to engage consumers in water-savings by creatively integrating regular water-supply information and updates into news, weathercasts.

WHEN: Wednesday, October 17, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

WHERE: 15th floor at LADWP’s offices, at 111 North Hope Street, downtown Los Angeles (Los Angeles County Thomas Guide page 634, F-3)

PARTICIPANTS: Robert Rozanski, LADWP’s acting general manager; Metropolitan board Chairman Timothy F. Brick; MWD General Manager Jeffrey Kightlinger; Jim McDaniel, LADWP’s chief operating officer–water; and water-supply experts from both agencies.

BACKGROUND:

During the workshop, LADWP and Metropolitan experts will provide you the latest information on the local and regional water supply picture and what the future holds. In addition, agencies will introduce tools and suggestions that radio, television stations can incorporate into their news broadcasts to help keep audiences apprised of the region’s critical supply situation as well as the pressing need to continue saving water.

Even miracle rains this winter will not reduce the need for water conservation. Help from radio, television news stations will be especially important this fall and winter, when days are shorter and cooler, but when the need for water conservation is still strong.
