Windswept Environmental Group, Inc. Announces Successful Test Results for Its Decontamination Process on Anthrax

Posted on: Monday, 22 October 2007, 09:00 CDT

HOLTSVILLE, N.Y., Oct. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Windswept Environmental Group, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: WEGI.OB) announced today that Battelle Biomedical Research Center (Columbus, Ohio) has successfully completed the testing for the Company's subsidiary, Trade-Winds Environmental Restorations, Inc., on its decontamination process for anthrax. The tests performed by Battelle reported complete inactivation of the anthrax spores without damage to the test substrate.

Michael O'Reilly, Chairman and CEO of Windswept, stated, "I am extremely pleased with the test results, since this decontamination process has been a very important project. We have incorporated our experiences from prior anthrax clean-ups into the development of this process. We strongly believe our process offers a superior alternative to the other available technologies for anthrax decontamination and, more importantly, the process is another tool available to respond to new and unforeseen biohazard events.

Battelle has performed similar testing for the United States Environmental Protection Agency with respect to the other available decontamination technologies for biological weapons of mass destruction. Battelle reported that in the two independent trials the Trade-Winds decontamination process implemented in the present study led to the inactivation of Bacillus anthracis Ames spores on six different indoor surface materials ranging from greater than 7.2 to 7.8 log reduction (greater than 99.99999% reduction). The industry guideline for anthrax spore deactivation calls for a 6 log reduction (99.9999% reduction) in spore count. Therefore, the Trade-Winds process exceeds the industry guideline. What this means in laymen's terms is that 10 million spores would be reduced to less that one spore. Battelle also found that the liquid culture assessment of the extracted test coupons suggested that the decontamination procedure appeared to inactivate any potential residual B. anthracis Ames spores on all test materials, and the procedure did not appear to promote any observable damage to any of the test building materials.

This effort is part of the Company's program to develop new processes and technologies for environmental remediation. As one of the leaders in environmental remediation, we believe it is the Company's responsibility to continually innovate. This process is part of the Company's ongoing strategy to expand its capabilities to respond to man-made disasters and to enhance its capabilities to work with agencies, such as Homeland Security."

The Company intends to apply for a patent for this process and register it with the Environmental Protection Agency, in order to be able to use it in the cleanup of Anthrax and other bio-hazardous contaminants.
