Ultra-scan Completes Six Year $30M Development of Groundbreaking Multi-modality Solid State Fingerprint Sensor

November 11, 2011

New sensor utilizes revolutionary design to allow either ultrasonic or capacitance imaging, and enables production of smaller, lightweight, low-power fingerprint scanners for desktop and mobile applications

Buffalo, NY (PRWEB) November 11, 2011

Ultra-Scan Corporation, the global leader in ultrasonic identity management solutions, announces it has recently completed development of a revolutionary, large area solid state fingerprint sensor capable of capturing both ultrasonic and capacitance four finger, slap and rolled fingerprint imagery. This new sensor represents the culmination of six years and $30M of groundbreaking research and development focused on creating a small, lightweight device capable of generating very high quality four finger images under real-world capture conditions.

This new sensor design, including control electronics, will have a very small profile, measuring 4.25â x 4.75â with a thickness of 0.25â, and an active image area of 3.75â x 3.75â at 500 dpi. Its reduced footprint and thickness will, for the first time, allow the development of small, lightweight, mobile field biometric solutions capable of capturing high-quality four finger slap and rolled fingerprint imagery for military and law enforcement applications.

The sensor has been successfully subjected to extensive in-house performance and design-for-manufacturability testing. âœWe have worked hard to ensure that the resulting image quality will meet or exceed the most demanding requirements set forth by the US Government for fingerprint sensor certificationâ notes Ultra-Scan President and CTO Dr. John Schneider. Extensive due diligence surrounding sensor manufacturability has established the sensor and miniaturized control electronics are manufacturable at a cost that is comparable to existing single finger sensors. Three desktop prototypes of the ultrasonic version of the sensor have already been delivered to the US Government for test and evaluation. The Company anticipates submitting formal test data to the Government for evaluation sometime in early 2012.

Ultra-Scan is now seeking strategic partners to assist in the launch of the technology that will occur over the next 12 months. The Company is interested in partnering for high quality, high volume, cost effective production of the completed design, as well as identifying an OEM partner to assist in expanding volume solutions to the commercial market via established sales and distribution channels.
