MedEdRules, LLC (MEDEDR), the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers (CMSC), and Nurse Practitioner Alternatives (NPA), has won the 2012 Alliance for CME (ACME) Member Section Great Ideas Award. The award recognizes organizations that have developed original or creative methods, technology, or applications in the continuing medical education (CME) profession. This is first time for MEDEDR to win this award.

In collaboration with CMSC and NPA, MEDEDR designed an interactive, small group/team-based CME/CE curriculum titled “New Frontiers: New and Emerging Concepts in the Management of Multiple Sclerosis”. The curriculum consists of a series of live regional dinner meetings, MS specialty center grand rounds meetings, and interactive teleconferences for neurologists and other neurology healthcare professionals. The interactive component is designed using group-based learning.

Live meeting clinician learners are first presented with cutting-edge clinical data and then engage in brief small-group discussions in which they explore the clinical implications of the new data. Treatment options are reviewed and put into practice by teams of learners utilizing iPads. Clinician learners then regroup to receive feedback from national faculty and local faculty.

The live, small-group teleconferences features discussion sessions and utilizes telephone keypad voting to engage the audience and provide feedback to the speaker. The iPads and telephone keypad technology serve as a way to collect valuable pre/post activity data, engage the audience throughout the presentation, and allow the speaker to tailor the flow of the presentation to meet the audience needs.

“By using multiple, interactive learning methods, these learners are able to hone in on their specific needs and use the information in practice more quickly.” Jennifer Spear Smith, PhD, FACME, CCMEP, Chief Learning Officer

The teleconferences are also recorded and made available online to all neurology learners on MEDEDR´s Neurology Community of Practice Web Portal. This activity can be found on the portal Web site: http://totalmeded.com/neurologyportal/index.html
