Their results show that the effect of the surface residual stress is much more important than the surface elasticity effect, and that surface residual stress should be considered in estimating the yield strength of nano-heterogeneous materials. Another recently published article presents a novel mechanical bioreactor for concomitant fluid shear stress and substrate strain. This study presents the design of a multimodal loading device which can apply substrate stretch and fluid flow simultaneously while allowing for real-time cell imaging.
