Bayer CropScience Donates $10,000 to the North American Pollinator Protection Campaign Promoting Bee Health
Bayer collaborates with non-profit to increase awareness of the importance of bees to the planet.

Each time someone goes to the grocery store to pick up fresh apples or blueberries; they witness the work of a pollinator. Thanks to the work of bees, birds, butterflies and other pollinators, billions of people around the world are able to enjoy an abundance of nuts, fruits and vegetables. And as the world population continues to grow, the importance of pollinators will become even more essential. In less than 40 years, the population is expected to spike to as many as 10.5 billion people. With nearly 3.5 billion more people to feed, more food will have to be produced over the next 50 years than has been produced during the past 10,000 years.1
During this year´s National Pollinator Week, Bayer CropScience joined efforts to support the growing demand to feed a hungry planet. To increase public awareness of the importance of pollinators, Bayer initiated its Pollinator Pledge campaign. Bayer pledged to donate $1 for each person who requested a free packet of wildflower seeds to start their own pollinator garden. Hundreds of people from across the United States pledged to plant the seeds, increasing foraging area for bees in their communities. The success of the initiative allowed Bayer to donate $10,000 to the non-profit Pollinator Partnership in support of the North American Pollinator Protection Campaign (NAPPC) a tri-national collaboration in which diverse stakeholders work to protect and conserve all pollinating animals.
“Bees and other pollinators supply many of the crops that provide 90 percent of the world´s food2 without even being aware of their impact,” said Jim Blome, president and CEO of Bayer CropScience North America. “All it takes is for one bee to visit a flower and the pollination process begins, making bees some of the most important animals on our planet.”
The Bayer CropScience celebration of National Pollinator Week fostered discussions and sharing of new ideas with those interested in bee health. During the week, Bayer also celebrated pollinators by joining with community members to plant a pollinator garden and hosting educational events geared toward employees and other stakeholders.
