Congressman Mike Quigley, Pew Environment Group, Argonne Researches to Discuss Benefits of Newly Enacted Fuel Efficiency Standards

August 30, 2012

This week the Obama Administration announced new standards that will increase fuel economy to 54.5 mpg for cars and light-duty trucks by 2025. When combined with previous standards set by the Administration, this move will nearly double the fuel efficiency for new vehicles.

Nationally, the new standards will save consumers more than $1.7 trillion at the gas pump and reduce oil consumption by 12 billion barrels. And in Illinois, it could mean up to 21,000 new jobs by 2030 and nearly $3,000 in fuel savings.
