Shelley Morningsong (Northern Cheyenne) has composed a theme song, “One by One”, for Futures for Children. This song, sung by Shelley Morningsong and Fabian Fontenelle (Zuni/Omaha) and produced by Shane McConnell, reflects the mission of Futures for Children, to improve the educational experience to empower American Indian children through leadership development and mentorship. Futures for Children does this one student at a time.

Shelley Morningsong is a Native famed singer, songwriter, and independent recording artist, and is also known as one of today´s top artists of Native American contemporary music. On October 7th, 2011 Morningsong took home the Native American Music Award for “Record of the Year” for her new album, “Full Circle,” held in Niagara Falls, New York. With her native influences, Shelley brings a strong and moving element of native spirituality and tradition woven with contemporary music.

Shelley embraces Native America and the world as a whole with her songs of compassion and understanding for all races and the joys and sorrows we all experience as does her husband Fabian Fontenelle. Fabian is a world renowned men’s northern traditional dancer, storyteller and historian. He is also a founding member of the American Indian Dance Company.

Dave Roberts of Southwest Productions is currently working (pro bono) on the music video for “One by One” due out in late September 2012. Southwest Productions produced Futures for Children´s Glenna´s Story and we are delighted that Southwest Productions has partnered with us once again. Dave said, “It´s been great working with Shelley and Fabian on this project. The song is very moving and adding pictures to it should make it even more compelling. I hope it will generate the attention that Futures for Children deserves.”

Futures for Children´s three circle of support includes Youth Leadership, Friendship/Mentorship and Families in Action to help to bring self-sufficiency in Hopi, Navajo, Pueblo and Mescalero Apache communities in Arizona and New Mexico as well as the Cheyenne-Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma.
