In Free Webcast, Experts Explore the Use of Analytics to Prevent Pharmaceutical Quality Problems

September 18, 2012

Free web-based program from September 18-20 explores the use of Spectroscopy, particle characterization and imaging to improve pharmaceutical quality control.

(PRWEB) September 18, 2012

Pharmaceutical manufacturers have had a number of serious quality issues recently, including product recalls. By adopting more modern methods, and better harnessing analytical tools already available, they have an opportunity to prevent quality problems and to establish a basis for continuous improvement.

On September 18, 19 and 20, in a free Web-based program hosted by PharmaManufacturing.com, a global panel of experts from industry, academia and FDA will discuss how NIR and Raman spectroscopy, particle characterization and imaging technology can be applied, individually and together, to better understand processes and products and help prevent quality failures.

The program will be moderated by NIR expert Emil Ciurczak. September 18 will be devoted to near infrared (NIR) and its applications, with presentations on real-time monitoring of tableting by Benoit Igne of Duquesne Unviersity, on continuous mixing by Rodolfo Romanach, Professor at the University of Puerto Rico (Mayaguez), and on using alternative calibration methods to determine the API content in low-dose tablets , by Ralf Marbach of VTT, Finland.

September 19 will cover application of Raman, with Thomas De Beer of the University of Ghent, discussing the complementary use of Raman and NIR to improve lyophilization, and John Kauffman of FDA discussing chemometric methods for Raman. A special afternoon session will be devoted to chemometrics, with a talk by noted chemometrician Howard Mark.

September 20 will focus on particle characterization and imaging, with presentations by Niels Ryde, consultant and former chief scientist at Elan, as well as James Burke, director of manufacturing at Alkermes.
