Cervalis Uncovers Big Issues for Data Center Executives in 2013
Cervalis Data Center’s 2012 market analysis finds executives are struggling to support new IT business initiatives requiring anytime, anywhere access to an explosion in data growth.
SHELTON, CT (PRWEB) January 31, 2013
Today´s data center executives are struggling to support new IT business initiatives without increasing their current budgets. These findings are based on an analysis conducted for the 2012 year. Companies need to increase their workload and infrastructure efficiency in order to effectively fund new initiatives. According to Gartner, “Data center budgets are not growing commensurate with demand.”* Gartner also said to “expect an 800% growth in data over the next five years, with 80% of it being restructured. Data centers can consume 100 times more energy than the offices they support. The cost of power is on par with the cost of the equipment.”*
It is recommended that data center managers focus more on the management and utilization of storage in an effort to minimize floor space, contain growth and improve compliance and business continuity efforts. They are constantly challenged by an increase in regulatory demands and an explosion in data growth, meanwhile their data center budgets are not growing proportionate with demand. Many companies are experiencing continued growth rates of 40% or more each year and they have to reallocate budgets from other buckets in order to fund this continued growth.
Gartner has indicated that more business environments are “demanding access to anything, anytime, anywhere and the rise of alternative delivery models, such as cloud computing, have placed new pressures on the infrastructure and operations (I&O) organization for support and speed.” Further Gartner reports, “a fitful economic environment has not loosened the budget purse strings sufficiently to fund all the new initiatives that many I&O organizations have identified.”
“Data center professionals are finding it tough to keep up with their ever-changing IT requirements while continuing to provide high levels of service and support that businesses require. This shift in business requirements has brought about the IT Infrastructure as a service need. This is why many companies are turning to Cervalis for their data center needs,” says Mike Boccardi, President and CEO of Cervalis.
Gartner Identifies the Top 5 Challenges Confronting Today´s Data Center Managers:*
1) Data Growth

5) Identifying and Translating Business Requirements
