Dallas, TX (PRWEB) March 08, 2013

The birth control safety advocates at DrugRisk.com are alerting women who´ve used the vaginal ring contraceptive NuvaRing of updated information added to the site showing the number of injury claims filed over blood clots has risen more than 3% in less than 2 months.

“The goal of DrugRisk is to improve consumer safety by providing the latest drug alerts, research, legal news and recalls. Patients who are informed can discuss side effect options with their doctor and decide if they need legal advice,” explains DrugRisk representative Ryan Mayer.

The resource center contains warnings from experts linking contraceptives like NuvaRing to higher risks of blood clots than traditional birth control pills. Last year, the New England Journal of Medicine published a study finding vaginal ring contraceptives could relate to a 2.5 to 3-fold increased risk of blood clots.*

DrugRisk has also compiled the latest figures from the FDA, which show more than 5,300 adverse reports have been filed among women using NuvaRing devices.** The most common side effects were 1,177 occurrences of pulmonary embolism and 1,155 reports of thrombosis or deep vein thrombosis. Over 30% of cases resulted in hospitalization while 3% ended in death.**

With many of those affected by blood clots having filed a NuvaRing lawsuit, cases have been consolidated to a special federal court in Missouri. The formal case is known as In re: NuvaRing Products Liability Litigation, No. 08-md-1964, JPML, Eastern District Missouri.

Now, DrugRisk has learned that the latest court records show the number of NuvaRing lawsuits has grown by more than 3% from 1,061 to 1,097 in less than 2 months. U.S. District Judge Rodney Sippel recently scheduled NuvaRing trials to start on July 8, 2013.**** Therefore, the time for patients to file a claim may be limited.

Anyone who suffered a blood clot, stroke, DVT or pulmonary embolism after using NuvaRing is urged to contact the DrugRisk Resource Center or speak with a lawyer about their legal rights as soon as possible.

Due to the specialized nature of federal MDL drug injury cases, DrugRisk only recommends lawyers and law firms who have already handled NuvaRing lawsuits.
