Fairfax, VA (PRWEB) March 17, 2013

The American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM) http://www.aaham.org, a professional association, to hold its annual Legislative Day, April 3-4, 2013 at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill.

Invited speakers include:

Matthew Barry, Healthcare Specialist – Bloomberg Government

Loren Duggan, Chief Analyst – Bloomberg Government

Jason D. Goldman, Senior Managing Director – U.S. Chamber of Commerce

Deborah Kelly, Executive Director – Financial Credit Services

Chris Merida, Director of Federal Affairs – American Express

Erik Rasmussen, Director of Legislative Affairs – American Hospital Association

“Legislative Day provides a valuable opportunity to meet with key leaders to communicate our perspective on healthcare challenges,” said AAHAM President, Christine Stottlemyer, CPAM. “It also provides an excellent forum to hear from prominent speakers about the critical healthcare issues being addressed in Washington today,” added Stottlemyer.

AAHAM´s 2013 Legislative Day focuses on the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). AAHAM feels it is imperative that Congress take immediate action to modernize the TCPA for the 21st Century. The TCPA should recognize a consumer´s right to consent to receive phone calls that are made to their wireless phones, if that number is provided by the consumer.

AAHAM says healthcare providers and their agents need to be able to contact consumers on any phone number they provided. Optimal care cannot be provided without access to patients using modern technology such as an automated dialer to a cell phone line. It is crucial to be able to use cell phones of patients to provide such services as appointment reminder calls, messages to call for test results, and collection of accounts.

“This event provides a great opportunity for AAHAM members and consumers. AAHAM will be educating members of Congress on the need to make critical changes to the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, which is a bi-partisan issue supported by both Republicans and Democrats in Congress, as well as President Obama. Technology has changed so rapidly that it is critical that we update the rules and regulations governing the TCPA,” said Paul A. Miller, AAHAM´s Congressional Liaison of Miller/Wenhold Capitol Strategies, LLC. “This is one issue that has bi-partisan support and needs to be enacted today,” Miller said.
