Introducing the Inaugural Class of Cultural Vistas Fellows
Seven U.S. university students receive funding to intern abroad in Asia, Europe, and South America in summer 2013.
NEW YORK (PRWEB) March 20, 2013
Cultural Vistas is pleased to announce the selection of the inaugural class of Cultural Vistas Fellows.
The Cultural Vistas Fellowship will provide seven U.S. university students the opportunity to gain professional experience through eight-week internship and immersion experiences in Argentina, Germany, and Singapore during the summer of 2013.
Funding for this initiative is provided directly by Cultural Vistas as part of its commitment to provide more Americans with opportunities to gain meaningful international experience.
“The launch of this funded fellowship is truly a milestone for Cultural Vistas, and highlights our deep commitment to providing international professional development experiences for young Americans,” said Cultural Vistas Fellowship Director Nicole Sisco. “To be able to afford this opportunity, especially to students who might otherwise not have such a chance, is incredibly exciting for us. We sincerely believe this has the potential to be a life-changing experience for the fellows.”
The inaugural program year centers on the theme of sustainability and begins this April with a virtual learning component to orient fellows to their respective host countries and explore relevant sustainability issues and best practices.
The group will convene in New York City at the end of May for a day-long orientation prior to traveling overseas.
Of the seven fellows, three will spend June and July living and interning in Singapore, while two each are destined for summer experiences in Berlin and Buenos Aires. For most of these participating students, this will represent the first time they have stepped outside the United States.
Upon returning stateside, the seven fellows will take part in a re-entry seminar in New York City to reflect and debrief on their time abroad. Each participating student will then complete “Fellows in Service” activities that share their knowledge gained on their respective campuses and in their local communities during the fall 2013 semester.
The inaugural class of Cultural Vistas Fellows includes rising juniors and seniors representing seven institutions across the United States. All program-related transportation, accommodations, support services, emergency medical coverage, and internship placements are covered by the program.
