Dr. Ruth Westheimer Keynote Speaker for Fulbright Academy Global Health Summit
Dr. Ruth Weistheimer will speak on Human Sexuality at the Fulbright Academy Global Health Summit in Montego Bay, Jamaica in May. The Summit will bring together specialists from across the globe to discuss the the drivers of human health and health care.

The Board of Directors of the Fulbright Academy announced today that renowned psychosexual therapist and media personality Dr. Ruth Westheimer will be the keynote speaker for its upcoming Global Health Summit in Montego Bay, Jamaica May 24-27, 2013.
The Huffington Post recently named Dr. Ruth as one of the 50 Women Who Shaped America’s Health. The Post commends Dr. Ruth for paving the way for open, frank dialogue about sex on public media outlets and making sexual literacy mainstream. Today, at 84 years old, Dr. Ruth serves as the Honorary President of the Council of Sexuality and Ageing at the National Sexuality Resource Center and is still answering America´s sex questions on her own YouTube channel and Twitter account.
In October 2012, Dr. Ruth published “Dr. Ruth’s Guide for the Alzheimer’s Caregiver.” She wrote her most recent book for the more than 15 million Americans who are responsible for the care of a loved one with Alzheimer´s disease. Dr. Ruth addresses strategies for both the practical problems and emotional stresses of Alzheimer´s care.
Dr. Ruth will co-present a panel on Human Sexuality with her colleague and co-author Dr. Sanford E. Lopater. Dr. Lopater is a Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia. He is a two-time Fulbright award recipient and was awarded a Fulbright grant in 1976-77 at Garnett College of the Institute of Education at the University of London and another in 1987-88 at the Cornwall College of Further and Higher Education in Camborne in southwest England. In 2002 and 2005 he published two editions of “Human Sexuality: A Psychosocial Perspective” with Dr. Ruth Westheimer.
Global Health Summit committee member and Treasurer of the Fulbright Academy, Mr. Kim David Eger, noted that the Academy is excited about Dr. Ruth sharing her knowledge with conference participants.
“Dr. Ruth is well-known and internationally respected for her outstanding efforts to understand and disseminate information about many facets of global health,” Mr. Eger noted.
Dr. Philip Rakita, Chairman of the Fulbright Academy shared a broader perspective on the conference itself. “The Fulbright Academy Summit on Global Health will bring together a set of multi-disciplinary specialists and advisers who are changing the face of health and health care in communities around the world. Participants, who will include renowned health professionals from across the globe, will discuss the drivers of human health and health care, such as public policy, technology, environmental, nutrition, and sexual health,” he said.
This meeting will be the sixteenth multi-day conference/summit organized by the Fulbright Academy and the international community of alumni. The Summit is open to the public. Participation is not limited to current grantees or only to alumni of the Fulbright Exchange Program. Anyone with an interest in the conference themes or who wishes to network with global Fulbrighters is welcome.
